Campaign Updates

Here's what I've been up to recently. For more, head over to the social channels, that can be found at the bottom of this page.

Immigration

So far in this campaign I have hardly mentioned migration, for the simple reason that I think there are more important issues for the people of this constituency.

However, this is an issue that matters to many people, and that means that it matters to me too, whatever my personal feelings.

Representation

Do you think it's right that elected officials can just decide to switch parties?

I believe it shows a casual disregard for the electorate and demonstrates how the party-system really feels about voters.

House Building

It's not just a case of building enough housing, it's about building the right homes, in the right places.

Everyone in Helsby knows the troubled history of house-building on the old Community Sports Club site. Now that there is light at the end of the tunnel, it's time to think about how we prevent this situation from happening again.

Leaflet Sorting

As a candidate in a parliamentary election you are given free postage for one item to each address in the constituency.

The downside, you have to deliver 45,400 items to the Royal Mail delivery centre in stacks of exactly 100. It takes longer than you think, and that's a lot of time staring at your own face.

Community Funding

This constituency see a lot of development. Examples include wind and solar farms, HyNet pipelines, and incinerator carbon capture schemes. Such developments often include community benefit funding.

Is this cash going to the best places, or is it another form of PR for the developers? I believe this money can be better spent and I plan to bring a private members bill to make it possible.

Ince & Elton Station

How many parts of the country would love to have a rail connection? Ince & Elton have a station but don't have anything like a usable rail service. The line is maintained as a 'parliamentary', but can more be done.

Train services connect communities, but can political parties make similar connections to bring about change? An independent candidate is free to make those connections.

Over the Bridge

My first video, taking a walk over the landmark Silver Jubilee bridge.
